Another friend gone

Hi People,

Blogs about miniature war games are not meant to be sad places but on Monday I lost my best friend.

A memo has been sent out to my remaining friends to stay alive because this is the second friend that I have lost this year.

As you can imagine not much painting was done. Just the usual visits to relatives, platitudes and sorrowful moments. Anyway please have a look at the pictures of my mate who had just had enough. Mental health is a real issue here in the UK.

The first six pictures are of my great friend Lee who was best man at my wedding and a superb friend to myself and my children.

The last two pics are of Calvert, a gentleman, a friend and an unstoppable force of nature. I really thought that these guys were immortal.

So. Sorry for the downer. Mental health is a real issue and please just savour every day it really is a gift.

Keep blogging people, my next post will contain hobby stuff I promise.

  1. So sorry. A great deal of folks still treat it like a stigma to internalize. It's important for all of us to talk openly about it and make sure that generations going forward realize that it is okay to need help and feel human and ask for help and support from those around us.

    1. Zab you are so right, mental health issues are only now being spoken about in a more open manner.

  2. A sad loss.

And yes mental health is a big issue. At least now it is being talked about and not hidden away.

  4. Sorry for your loss, my only advice is to try and take time every day to think of things you did with them that make you laugh. That way your happier thoughts of your friends will come to the fore above the sorrow

  6. I don't really get why we make the distinction between mental health and other health (physical health?). It's all just health.

    My condolences on your losses.

  7. that is so sad. I really feel for you (and their other friends and families)
I've had four friend suicide, and even though the first one was nearly 30 years ago it still hurts, and always that thought in the back of the head "What if I had done something, then maybe..." :-(
Savour the times you had together with them and the time you have now with your friends and family.

    1. Thank you Joakim, you are right about the "what if" I and his family have talked about this. I am so sorry to hear that you have known people to take their own lives. It is tragic.

    2. It is. Hope you feel at least a bit better now
And let's hope we are spared more friends getting ill and taking their own lives.
