No Inspiration

Hi Guys,

Well this does happen to me-all of us? On and off. I just have not picked up a brush in over a month. I am not sure what does this but I suspect that the warm inclement weather plays a part and the deire to be outside during the summer months must contribute?

Anyway I have slowed down in my stockpiling of miniatures though I must have a couple of hundred waiting...so I decided I would like something to read. Enter Spectre Miniatures Modern Ruleset. At £24 delivered this is not a cheap war gaming book so I have high hopes that it will re start my desire to paint and maybe even play a game!?

So...I have a few weeks off work lined up and a desire to start a project for the new season in the Autumn...has anyone played this? Are scenario's available?

This has been the longest spell I have had away from painting in a number of years, working has played a part but painting boredom is in there as well, one can only paint X number of models without any reason before one runs out of steam

A couple of family photo's, first is my son in a WW1 German overcoat, it is original and in the sun almost reed green (Vallejo have nailed it)

Second with youngest daughter and third with Bex, eldest daughter who just graduated. Not really solo or war gaming but I am pretty proud of them all and it does show I have been busy. Just noticed Bex is holding a beer.....so proud.

  1. Nice family!

Yeah, I definitely go through periods of not being inspired to paint (or other periods of not being inspired to do other hobby things). Sometimes I just go with the flow and do the things that interest me at the time, so it might be more reading or more board gaming or whatever. Other times I try doing a little painting or prepping minis, even if I may not really be in the mood. A little progress can sometimes spark me to complete a few minis.

The main thing, as I always say, is to have fun.

    1. Thanks Fitz, you are so right. I think we have to just go with the mood. I am looking forward to the cooler weather, staying indoors with a warm cup of tea generally helps the desire to paint for me.

  2. Family and friends first! Everything else a distant second :) We all get burn out or slumps. Not big deal. Paint and hobby when you feel it. Maybe try new mediums or styles or projects to help get the mojo back or just browse the inter web looking for inspiration.

    1. Thanks Zab, thats good advice. Maybe when the weather is cooler the desire to paint will return.

  3. I far rather play games than paint, so I happily go months without picking up a brush. When I do get on with it, it's as a chore that has to be done in order to get more nice toys on the table.

Love the greatcoat. I bought an Italian carabineri greatcoat last year, but it's never really been cold enough this winter for me to justify wearing it :(

    1. The Italian uniforms were very stylish! I rather enjoy painting but not many people around here to game with.

I sympathise with your predicament. I'm much like Fitz-Badger, I just go with the flow and do whatever interests me. Sometimes working on one thing will trigger a desire to do something else creative. Recently I worked on a wedding cake topper for two friends who're getting married later this year. That put me in the mood to make a Romano-British church for my Dux B collection.

    1. I think you are right AJ. Forcing myself to paint will not work...I have no idea how professional painters keep going!
The Romano Brit period is fascinating...and now it is in plastic!

  5. Great family pictures Carl - the priority - you, like me, are struggling progress-wise. I have been looking at (solo) board games to get me back into painting etc. Have a look at Hold the Line, available at PSC and see what you think, mate 😀

    1. Thans Monty I have never heard of it but I will take a look, that may be a good idea. I may even try to attend a wargames show later in the year to see if that kick starts things.
